Larson Shihan earned the highest honor bestowed by Morihiro Saito Shihan in 2001 and currently holds a 6th degree black belt in Aikido. Larson Shihan demonstrates Aikido worldwide, having taught people between the ages of three and eighty-three, from all walks of life.
Tatami Studio-Winnipeg Aiki Shuren Dojo receives certification through Larson Shihan the Iwama Takemusu Aikikai organization, which is currently affiliated with the World Aikido Federation (Aikikai) Headquarters, in Tokyo, Japan. Tatami Studio is honoured to have received the name Winnipeg Aiki Shuren Dojo from Larson Shihan.
‘Larson Shihan demonstrates Aikido worldwide’
Larson Shihan is the founder and chief instructor of Minnesota Aiki Shuren Dojo, in Minnesota, USA, a dojo name bestowed upon his dojo directly by the late, great Morihiro Saito Shihan. In 1992, Larson Shihan's Aikido studies took him to Japan for nearly a decade where he experienced living, learning, and training as a live-in/direct student (uchideshi) of Morihiro Saito Shihan at the Founder’s Dojo in Iwama, Japan, the birthplace of Aikido.
Larson Shihan received the highest sword (aiki-ken) and staff (aiki-jo) weapons certification (menkyokaiden) from Morihiro Saito Shihan, and he currently holds a sixth-degree black belt (rokudan) from the World Aikido Federation (Aikikai) Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Larson Shihan makes annual trips back to Japan and serves as a technical advisor for a number of Aikido schools in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, travelling to various US states and countries teaching, disseminating, and preserving Iwama Aikido. TATAMI KIDS AIKIDO (AGES 6–8)
Tatami Studio’s children’s classes are the perfect place to introduce your child to the gentle martial art of Aikido.
At Tatami Studio, we focus on the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual lives of all children who train with us. They will learn to interact respectfully with teachers and classmates while building coordination, confidence and strong self-defence skills.

TATAMI youth AIKIDO (AGES 9–14)
The Tatami Youth program is designed to be a bridge between the Tatami Kids program and the adult programs.
Tatami Youth classes are fast paced and engaging, inspiring students to push the limits of their potential. Instructors begin to teach adult-level training methods designed to improve physical conditioning, building a solid foundation of self-defence skills while having fun. Classes nurture self-confidence, creativity and a positive attitude.

ADULT AIKIDO (15+)
Adult Aikido Classes are taught in a traditional format, introducing new students to the fundamentals of basic Aikido movements, and challenging experienced students with advanced techniques and principles.
Aikido etiquette will also be introduced. The pace of the class is such that persons of any fitness level can participate. All levels of Aikido students train together. There is no segregation by rank during practice: beginning, intermediate and advanced students all practice together freely. It is recommended that all students participate in two to three weekly classes.
